LeadLine Support Center

What the heck is a LeadLine anyway?
Do you know why our publication is called the "LeadLine" pronounced Ledline? (Leadline,- bluish-white metallic element found mostly in combination; also, "a plummet for sounding at sea", according to Webster.) For further information on a Leadline see Chapman's Piloting Seamanship & Small Boat Handling available at our bookstore.

A LeadLine is a length of light rope with a weight (the lead) at one end and markers at accurately measured intervals from the end. It is used for determining the depth of water alongside a vessel. This method has been replaced by a depth sounder. In other words a device for "sounding the waters".

This page works just like the LeadLine box at the club. You can submit articles (long and short), bits & pieces, sign up for e-Alerts, place a want ad, enter a change of address or insert a Christmas greeting for the December LeadLine. Support WYC and participate in our club functions.
